Well, it was kind of inevitable: Oh No Ingrid is going away!

I have found myself becoming increasingly frustrated with the aspects of SL that don’t involve pushing around philtrum pixels in Photoshop or acting like an idiot in public with friends. Maybe I’ve just been in SL for too long, but all I want to do is sit in my skybox making stuff while having a few IM windows open.

I also do not have the time I need to write the blogticles I want. The early Oh No, Ingrid! posts involved a degree of planning I just don’t have time for anymore, working 7 days a week.

Which kind of leads us to point number 3: I’m crazy in love and am currently trying to find a job elsewhere so I can be with my darling forever and sunshine lollipops kittens etc. So, that is also eating into my SL time.

I also got tired of raging against the machine a few months ago, I can’t spend all of my time angry so I just cut most RL-blog stuff out. Which means no more trans-anything posts, naturally.

I have been unhappy with the state of Oh no, Ingrid! for about a year now. So since it is Oh No, Ingrid’s second birthday this month, I thought it would be a nice time to end it and takea vacation from blogging. I don’t know when and if I’ll start again, but it’s pretty likely since I have opinions and they just fall out of my mouth.

OH NO

I completely forgot to update on the weekend!

I know, there is no excuse.

I did release a new skin!

Also: Mattie gives me more good reasons for not reading feminism and gendurr blogs anymore. It’s true, I don’t. I really can’t be fucked anymore because it makes my blood boil to be confronted with the same nonsensical arguments over and over and have people attempting to make me feel bad when I say I’m not there to answer their questions and fucking why don’t you just fucking wiki it. I am definitely not a credit to my whatever (o-ho!), but then we knew that already. Yes, I feel vaguely bad about not gendertalkin’ anymore, but it doesn’t compare to the +4 to my happiness stat I get when not confronted with people who make me want to spoon my eyes out.

 

Them boots

My big purchase this week were the ballet boots from Mesmerize Dungeon.

I am normally not a big fan of ballet boots, but these are amazingly well-made! They’re 750L but they come with an AO and, like the KaS corset I’d written about sometime back, have different training levels. The first time you start up the boots you get a choice of how long you want your training to last. This ranges from very easy with 2,5 hours to very hard with 40 hours. I picked normal, which is 10 hours. Then I realized it wasn’t 10 hours of standing around, it was 10 hours of *walking* until I’d have my training completed. Oh, did I mention you fall down during training? Well you do. You fall down a lot. you also can’t walk up edges, even if they are only 2 cm high. You can try to jump up things, but you can only jump about 7 cm or so when you first start out.

I bought these boots together with Midi, and she kept laughing at me as I fell on my ass. Some friend! Still, it’s kinda fun. Even if I am still at 2% of level 1.

You can also change the boot and heel colours, but I’m not so hot on the non-black colours for the boots. They’re rlv enabled blah blah blah I know nothing about rlv.

My hair is from Gritty Kitty. It was recently made a freebie because of CONTENT THEFTS. You should probably go there and grab it and buy something else too.

In other news, I’m working on a new skin and also on a collaborative doll project. I’m pretty excited about both. The skin should go on sale next Saturday, hopefully.

I’ve also started on a 6th Esther make-up and was considering putting it in the tone and fatpacks as an exclusive. (Naturally, if I do and you already have bought a tone or fatpack you will get them delivered to you also.) I’m just not sure if it works well on all skins tones.

 

50L Friday: Sunburst edition

I actually managed to wrestle my internet into submission this week and was able to do 50L Friday! A rich bounty awaits etc etc.

GOOD LORD, someone actually made blonde hair with dark roots. I’ve only been looking for a nice hair like that for two years. This one is from lamb and also comes in black. The Skirt is from Kyoot and also part of 50L friday.

Oh, Berlin

I have two favourite Berlin moments now.

The first: Herzog & I went to a completely dilapidated-looking club/bar after essentially being chased out of our breakfast place by some sort of homophobic art school twat of a woman who would not. Stop. Talking. So yes we left and went to this tiny thing with a woman molesting a guitar on some tiny stage.

Suddenly, I see iMacs! And iPhones! Turns out that shabby little club with the shabby, poor-looking students is actually trust fund baby hipster-central Berlin. Basically, affluent Berlin hipsters like buying 2€ second-hand shirts and €1500 consumer electronics and I lose my faith in our youth.

Here’s the second one: After a long day of running around and looking at Dalí pictures, me and Herzog arrive at his hotel. Along with about 100 or so police officers in riot gear. We walk up the stairs from the subway and see even more police, police vans parked on the curb and so on. Turns out there’s some kind of demonstration and they will walk past the hotel. We quickly get in and shrug it off.

Half an hour later, we are lying on the bed doing the usual “I love you” “no, I love you” stuff people in love do when we hear the sound of… boots marching in lock step? Hang on a fucking minute. A megaphone is turned on and some guy starts ranting about blood and honour and how the German man shall not have his country taken away from him for about half an hour, punctuated by wild clapping. turns out the smaller (400-750 people) nazi demonstration was made to hold their speech right in front of our hotel by the police, as they had been attacked by some people from the considerably larger (2000-2500 people) counter-demonstration. Were we ever grateful. We still managed to make out like the proverbial bandits. Wait, what do you mean that does not mean what I think it means?

It may not sound like I like Berlin very much, but I do, actually!

Oh yase, the skins.

Oh!

I never mentioned it here: I have finally released my skins!

My internet connection has stabilized a bit (though it remains dreadfully slow) so I might be able to have some actual SL adventures soon. Maybe? Maybe!

 

Good lord what happened to me?

Yes yes well I moved to Berlin, and with the exception that the apartment is always cold (4.5m high ceilings and 2m windows are great, but this thing is a bitch to heat) and that I will suffer at the hands of this less-than-1mb internet connection for the next few months I have been loving it so far.

Obvs at less-than-1mb and spotty to boot SL runs like an utter twat, which is why I haven’t been able to release the skins. I can’t even stock my vendors unless I drag every skin into them one by one, and I still have to check and recheck everything about 10 minutes after that.

Well anyway, it’s worth it. I will be ready on Monday, since I’ll be spending the weekend offline. In the meantime, I’m retiring half of my old skins. HEY LOOK A SALE.

I’ve only bought two things during the past week, a pearl necklace from Body Politik (I wrangled, no joke, about 15 minutes with a set of stairs, since I walk like a geriatric robot with this connection) and the Fawnication set from Gritty Kitty.

The pearls are pretty good, they’re 300L and colour-changeable 8 ways, althought to be honest, I am going to use 2 of the colours at most. Ahh, value added anything. At least they are not full-fucking-bright like half of the jewelry in SL. Fullbright and no mod: worst combo.

I really love the Fawnication ears and antlers, I think they’re going to be my new default antlers. Look at how small and adorable they are!

 

The end of Lustmord!

With the way I’ve been carrying on the past few months, it’s no wonder that Lustmord is going away…

… and a new store is taking its place.

OH SNAP.

Yes, I’m renaming Lustmord and dumping 80% of my current stock. I will have a huge sale later this month and that will be that, as they say, for my current skins. Currently I have enough prims for 1 big vendor left, and that’s after decimating my lovely street cafe thing with the magically warping 1-prim dali chairs!

Please say hello to liminal.. The full stop is part of the name. How fucking fancy am I? Extremely fucking fancy it seems. I did a bit of reading on liminality during my neurolinguistics and child language development classes back at uni and considered the name the first time I was naming my store. Somehow, the German name for “sex murder” seemed more appealing at the time. What the hell is/was wrong with you, past self?

I have changed textures on the store, but this is only a provisional update. I hated the old colour scheme, everything was way too fucking bright. I supect I’ve swung too far in the other direction, but I want to concentrate on making some skins and clothes first.

I did say I was opening with everything that’s new on the 1st, but that isn’t going to happen now as I accidentally (!) made two more make-up sets than I had planned. Re-Opening will happen between the 3rd and the 9th instead, sandwiched between two dates I’m very much looking forward to.

The girl from Lazytown grew up to be a chubby goth :(

I took a friend shopping yesterday. We went to Schadenfreude and Nomine, and on the way I grabbed some stuff for myself.

I got this awesome dress at Nomine, which is so amazing I may have to wear it everywhere from now on. I think it goes well with this necklace I got at Canimal and which reminds me of the stuff one of my favourite RL designers, Tarina Tarantino, makes.

The hair is from Schadenfreude and only 100 fucking Linden for 5 colours. that’s right, 100 fucking Linden, I said it. I’ve been looking for a haircut like this for ages, and the fact that the hair comes in two-tone options too is just so awesome. Finally I can have pink-blue hair again.

Quelle suprise: I made this make-up. In fact, it’s part of the last of the 4 packs I was going to make before I release, which means I am SO CLOSE. I am so close, i can taste the vendors. they taste like… plywood and glue. Ugh, ech.  I think I need to go drink some juice or summat to get the taste out of my mouth, actually.

Oh noes! … part 324656

This is pretty scary.

Let me preface any comments I have on this issue by stating that I am not too fussed about the thought of getting my stuff copied. If there was a better inventory managing system that tied all accounts together, we’d have a lot less of the casual copying of skins. And as far as I’m concerned, if you bought a skin of mine and don’t like the lipstick or whatever, go the fuck on and change it yourself if you feel so inclined. Sure, I like getting money (who doesn’t?), but I won’t fault you for not buying the same skin on 10 of your alts. I kind of can’t be bothered to be bothered by the loss of about 80 cents or so that not buying a skin of mine entails to me.  If my income beyond “yay, virtual play money” depended on this I’d probably think differently, but it doesn’t and probably never will. Likewise, the thought of someone else copying and making money off something I made fucks me off, but they have ways to handle that too. Not that I’m an especially tempting target either way! Hey, I know that what I make is probably not interesting to 99% of SLers.

In short,  I don’t have very much to lose here.

I am more worried because every case like this makes a few of my favourite creators discouraged to make stuff. I think people aren’t aware just how much stuff people are copying on a daily basis. I guess if you are making a living off SL, it’s the only way to go on and not throw your hands up and close down everything. I also find it disconcerting how easy this viewer seems to make copying. At least glwhatever can’t be used by a retarded monkey. You have to be, like, at least a monkey of average intelligence.

What I will probably do, however, is to start making things that generally aren’t copybotted that much. low-price items like shirts and pants that people can’t be bothered to copy because they cost about 50L and have some obscure slogan on them. I have been working on a few shirts anyway, let’s see if I can be bothered to finish them before the new year!
